It’s The Little Things …

fixingpedal

Ollie and I have organized a little Boys Bike Rally with some friends later this week. He is so excited! It will involve three things: boys, bikes and our church parking lot. Oh, wait, make that four things – I forgot snacks.

We got out his bike yesterday to adjust the training wheels and tune the whole thing up. After I was done with the actual work, Ollie continued “working” on his bike with his dad’s coveted wrench and ratchet set for FOUR HOURS!

No matter how many times I checked on him, he told me he wasn’t done.  I had all the windows open because it was a glorious day and could hear him singing, talking about the tools, discussing the bike with himself, etc. Who knew a set of little metal tools could provide such entertainment?

As I’m sure anyone who has mothered a four year old knows, FOUR HOURS is a really, really long time for a kiddo to be engaged in one thing. It was dreamy. I washed and folded laundry, sent a few emails, cleaned the kitchen, helped two other kids with homework, had a phone call with a sister and got dinner made.

I also got a picture of the cutest ear in the history of mankind. It’s the little things, ya know?

He sure does like his tools and his outdoor time. I bet he will become an awesome fix it person some day, an excellent quality in a future husband! Whoa! He's only 4. Getting ahead of myself there!

That sounds like the perfect day to me, for you and for Ollie. Nice weather, windows open and him singing outside while playing with tools and you being able to do many things in the meanwhile -- perfection!

This reminds me that I need to ask my flatmate to help me change a flat tire on my bike.

Also, how cool about the boys bike rally, I bet all little boys are so excited about it. :)

I love the songs little kids make up when they are happy. It sounds like a magical time to me.

I loved everything about this post, particularly the photos. He's so cute trying to be so important, grown up and busy. It will be a sad day when he doesn't like playing with tools.
