Lush, Green, Bright & Bold …

I’ve had several people ask me what I loved most about Hawaii. Aside from being with my in-laws, whom I adore, and seeing my children’s so happy, I’d have to say the natural beauty of the island was right up at the top of my list.

Everywhere we went there was something greener, more colorful or more unique than the day before.  Here are a few of the lovelies I wanted to share with you.

These tiny ferns were growing out of the wall along my in-laws driveway. They made me happy every time I looked at them!

Also on the property was this giant urn filled with long grass and tiny blue fish.  Owlie was happy to visit the fish each day and help feed them. I was happy to stare at them and be mesmerized.

This plant was one of the best on the island.  It’s straight out of a Dr. Seuss book! Don’t you just want to reach out and touch it?

The leaves on this tree reminded me of giant hearts.  How could I not love?  And when I say giant, I mean it – this leaf was taller than Owlie!

One day as we were leaving the house, I caught sight of what I thought was a Monarch butterfly on a bush in front of the car. It turned out to be a moth – but it was still awesome that I caught it on camera.

Okay, last one.  These trees made my nature lover’s life complete.  So twisty.  So tall. So green when it should be bleak and wintery. The trees in Hawaii were amazing.

Hopefully these cheery photographs have brightened your day.  I’m going to spend many moments today looking at these pictures in between combing and denitting Hannie B.’s hair . . . we’ve been stricken with a disastrous case of head lice. Any good thoughts you can send our way would be much appreciated.

Sigh. Hawaii seems like it was a year ago.

Beautiful pictures Samantha! I'm so sorry you're dealing with lice. Our family had to deal with that twice in 4 months. I still have bad dreams about it. The hardest part was that i got it too, and had to try to do all the combing, etc on my own head because my hubby couldn't see those tiny things and also didnt have the time or patience to help. And who from the RS is going to come do that? Worst experience ever! Finally I found a product with neem oil in it that I feel really helped. Lice don't like neem and it's a natural pesticide.
Good luck, be thorough, and try to turn it into bonding time with hannie somehow. You're gonna know every bump and freckle on that cute girls scalp!

Glad you've got an ample reserve of good memories and amazing pictures of Hawaii's fauna and flora to keep you going over the next few weeks.

I love the curly trees and the large leaves most of all!

Beautiful flora and fauna...on a side note, maybe Hannie B has Hawaiian lice.

I hope the lice won't spoil your fond memories of Hawaii. I went to Oahu with my brother Don in 2000 and it was one of my greatest experiences. So beautiful, so peaceful ('course I was without kids!)
