Reality: Allergic to Marriage?

IMG_1358

I love my Hubby.  I love being married. I made the decision to marry almost seventeen years ago and I’ve never looked back.  It’s forever for me and my guy.

But for some strange reason, in the past three weeks my wedding ring has been giving me serious problems.  The skin underneath is itchy, splotchy and has blisters that are and super irritated. It’s almost like I’m allergic to my ring.

I’ve been dealing with it by putting a little hydrocortisone on at night, but yesterday I couldn’t take it any more and had to take my ring off. Has this ever happened to anyone else?  Got any advice for me? Because I’d like to put a ring on it, to quote Beyonce.

And while I’ve got you thinking about my conundrum, could you also tell  me why pictures of hands are so freaky? Or why I have man hands {with girly nails} ?  Thanks ever so much for your help. It means a lot.

I have this problem sometimes -- haven't really figured out why, but my skin does tend to be sensitive in general. If I stop wearing my ring for a few days, it seems to go away on its own. Also, clean your ring thoroughly in case something irritating has gotten under it. Ew, I just took mine off and it needs a good cleaning pronto!

Those aren't man hands- they are mom hands and they sure make great stuff.
Maybe an irritant got stuck under the ring? Hopefully a few days of fresh air will clear up the skin.

Yes, that's happened to me a number of times. I have no idea why. I just took my ring off for a bit, drank more water and took extra allergy meds.

Wow! So, It thought I was the only one that this ever happened to! I had this issue a few months ago. The skin under my ring was so itchy and irritated, just like yours. It went on for at least 6 months. I finally went to the doctor about something else and asked about it. She said it was just a bit of eczema (which despite terrible skin, I don't have anywhere else on my body). She gave me a cream which I put on once a day for just a handful of days, and it was gone. It hasn't returned since. I hope yours gets better!

Don't know about the irritation but those are definitely not man hands! Silly Sam.

Margy, thanks for the heads up. I do have eczema elsewhere, and I'm guessing that's what this is. I'll just keep up with the hydrocortisone and see if it helps since that's what I use on my other trouble spots.

I would get your ring cleaned too. Just in case. Most jewelry stores will do it free of charge. Your hands are beautiful and not mannish at all.

Your hands work, that's what is most important and they don't look like man hands. Take a break from the ring wearing. I think all the rain has put a lot of fungal spores in the air which could be contributing to your ring finger rash.

I feel weird commenting since you don't know me, but a friend recommended your blog to me :). I had the same problem with my ring and went to the jeweler thinking I was developing a nickel allergy (white gold has some nickel in it). Turns out she looked at my finger and said "Looks like you are getting water under your ring". I sized my ring up a half size and have had no problem since. Just a thought!

I have this same problem. You probably wash your hands a zillion times a day being a mom and all! Soap is very basic (opposite of acidic). Soap will irritate the skin if it is left in contact with it. Also fungus will grow in dark, wet spots like under a ring. Do not wash hands with your rings on. Dry your hands thoroughly before you put your rings back on. Clean your rings every once in awhile!! For right now use an anti-fungal cream to clear up your finger. Do not cover it, leave ring off until finger is better. Clean your ring before you put it back on too! Hope that helps!!

Be sure to rinse away all soap from under the ring and dry your hands thoroughly. Did you change dishwashing detergent recently?
Poor busy hands. They need to be ring free for a few days.

I get this too. I have a channel set anniversary band and it seems to flare up worse if I get antibacterial soap under it. I went to the dr once for it and he gave me an anti-fungal cream. Kinda felt grossed out when it cleared it right up.

So....I've been off line for a bit so I'm tardy in my reply. This happened to me about 7 years ago....turns out I've worked with my nuts and twigs doctor (as Matt calls him...) I do not filter metals well. We take in lots of metals in our water, in our food and by touch and some of us get out of balance and bam! The red ring phenomenon. So....head to your nuttiest health food store and ask them if they can recommend a metal detox "potion." I used something called Metox, but beware, the first few days you will feel terrible! Headaches...but I think it's well worth it to clear your system out.
