Summer Is Perfect For . . .

Homemade chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream!

We got out our ice cream maker last week to try and beat the heat.  The kids requested cookie dough ice cream.  I made a classic vanilla and then took the cheater route and just cut up the ready made Nestle cookie dough.

Hannie B. was more than willing to roll it into balls and we both agreed that adding some extra chocolate chips was a good idea.

This little Cuisinart ice cream/yogurt maker is genius.  It takes about 30 minutes to freeze the ice cream into soft serve form and then another two to three hours in the freezer to get it to scooping consistency.

The results were delish enough that we ended up making strawberry ice cream the next day. Next week we’re going to create some lemon sorbet to get everybody excited for our killer lemonade stand.

Summer is pretty awesome in the food department, no?

I think the cheater route is genius.

It must have been awfully hard to not pop those little balls of dough into your mouth, Hannie B.

Who says we didn't pop some of the little balls into our mouths? :)

Beware. Your lemonade stand will be evaluated by the FDA and the local police to see if you have the proper ingredients and have applied for all necessary permits.

Nanny State is watching you...

Yum-0! Where did you get the ice cream maker? I need one. I need to be a funner mom. Maybe it would help in that department. Did you get my email?

I have 2 of those ice cream makers. You have to check out the salted caramel and strawberry rhubarb recipes at Cookinglight.com. Oh, and their raspberry sherbet and banana-mango frozen yogurt.

Emily, I got this ice cream maker at Costco last summer. Here's a similar one available on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-ICE-21-Frozen-Yogurt-Ice-Sorbet/dp/B003KYSLMW

We have the exact same ice cream maker! I'm so happy that sometimes you take shortcuts. I take shortcuts with just about everything that has to do with cooking!! Mainly because I'm impatient and I just want to get to the part where my taste buds explode in delight.
