Spiders and Skulls and Rats, Oh My!

Isn't the perfect look of shock on this wee one's face just to die for and so very appropriate for the spooking season? It's a picture of my mom taken by my grandfather and it melts my heart every time I see it!
My post today is devoted to a love of my mom's creativity and ingenuity when it comes to all things decorating, and specifically decorating for the holidays. She's so very clever and continually upping her game.
About five or six years ago, she discovered that it is just darn good fun to decorate for Halloween. My kids and I enjoy seeing what oddities and strangenesses she'll come up with each year. Upon first viewing her Halloween, the children are known to tread carefully - because my mom has perfected what I like to call a "Classy Macabre" look in her spooky decor and if you get caught off guard, you may take a serious fright! She always throws some vintage charm in the mix and the result is fascinating mixed with frivolity.
Take a look at a few photos I snapped at her house and shout out to her in the comments, since I've long ago given up the idea of her EVER having a blog of her own. (Don't forget to click on the images to see them larger and enjoy the captions.)

Tomorrow, Halloween decor with whimsy at Marci's house!

I took my in-laws out to the country last week for a visit to Marci's house. It is truly tour worthy and we enjoyed ourselves immensely! I'm so glad I brought my camera along to snap a few shots of Marci's whimsical Halloween decor. My only regret is that I didn't get a shot of her life-sized butler/Dracula waiting in the front entry. He is a treasure! My favorite part of Marci's holiday decor was the Mad Scientist's Lab up in her children's library/study area. Too fun! Enjoy.

WOW! The Queen Vee goes ALL out! Love her ideas! I think I'm doing good if I get a few pumpkins scattered about the house to make it look a little festive! Now we know where you get your creativity, it was passed down through your mother's DNA!

I have a dream. My dream is that one day all my grandchildren will hold hands as they walk through my classy gothic macabre Halloweeny house and worry about turning a corner as well.

I'm taking notes, ladies!

Thank you for the goulishly but kind focus on the spookorama at Chateau Carlson.

I do love it when my little grandson says," Mema that is frightening" or when a frends grandson keeps going back to check out the hand coming out from under the hallway cabinet or my friend Susan, who eeks and shudders every time she has to eat at my Halloween table.

All Hallows Eve is a delightfully scary holiday....ah ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
