Big Changes …

Yesterday was a big day for my RedDog! He turned eleven and “graduated” from elementary school. In other words, I did some crying.

How can the little fellow I gave birth to only a month after moving here be eleven? It’s not right, I tell ya.

We went and got donuts for breakfast which made him late for school. When I checked him in at the office, he was sure to tell everyone he was late because of donuts. Then I brought him Chic-fil-A for lunch and he proceeded to explode a ketchup packet all over himself. A fun birthday memory?

He requested my homemade alfredo pasta with ham and peas plus a huge side of zucchini and homemade breadsticks for dinner. Everyone was happy with his choice, even the pickiest of eaters.

We rushed out the door to make it in time to his graduation ceremony. All of the fifth graders sang a song (made me cry), received a diploma (made me cry) and then brought a single yellow rose to their mothers (made me cry). The lights were low at the graduation which made for lame pictures. Oh well.

We came home to open presents and have cheesecake (his request) with grandparents, Aunt Audrey and RedDog’s favorite cousins, Jonah and Samuel. It was a bittersweet moment for me to capture this picture. RedDog loves his cousins more than anything in the world. He will be very lonely without them here in Virginia.

Today is the last day of school! Last day of elementary school for RedDog. He will come home and immediately get ready to head out the door for his first Boy Scout campout. He is so excited he’s had his bag packed since the beginning of the week!

I love RedDog. He is a sweet and charismatic boy with a sensitive heart. He is changing and I can’t wait to see who is going to become!

My "little one" just turned 11 too and he headed off for his first boy-scout campout that week-end as well! Our 6th grade is still Elementary school here, for which I'm grateful. I'm not quite ready for him to be a middle schooler.

This whole post made me teary eyed. It's so scary how fast those 11 years have gone by….I'm running out of earth time.

Love that RedDog.

Yep, it's going too fast. If we cover them all with honey head-to-toe, do you think we could slow them down? I'm so glad we've been a part of some of Red Dog's past 11 years. Our lives are the richer for it.
