Happier Things …

IMG_5476

Thank you so much for the positive words of encouragement after yesterday’s post on the awful Homecoming dance. I shared the post on Facebook and received confirmation from parents around the country that we are not alone in our frustration.

I have put a plan in action to form a Coming Home dance for next year and will let you know how it develops. I feel validated in knowing we do not have to settle for less when it comes to our kids.

Today I thought it would be great to focus on something really happy.  My Ollie boy has taken to drawing! I am in love with the concentrated face, the little hand pushing pencil across paper, the realization that he can reproduce the things he sees in real life through the filter of his mind and put it down for everyone to see.

All of my kids have been drawers. RedDog draws all the time.  Hannie B, the artist in residence, was drawing people in clear detail at age 2. That’s pretty early. Ollie is just now doing it at 4. That’s a little late. But I’ll take it.

Because look at how happy he is. He made this puppy picture to give to Harley Jack, our friends’ new puppy. Hannie B added little blue jewels for eyes. Secretly, I didn’t want to give this to the dog. Instead I wanted to lock it away in my heart forever.

I am living a life of extremes right now – High School and all it’s craziness and little boys drawing their first puppies. Seriously. Could not get more different than that.

You've got full spectrum going on: big and little and in betweens. Great perspective for all the milestones in your children's lives.

Ahhh, maybe you can ask for it back because that is soooooo cute as is the artist.

Very cute. Does the wide age spread give you better perspective?

Love how happy he is about his masterpiece! And he sure is so cute all focused while drawing.
I don't remember when I was little, but nowadays, whenever I have to draw somethings it's kinda stressing (the contrary to what Ollie's picture conveys) since I'm so awful... hahaha
