My Constant Companion …

Hi Little Buddy!

Your eyes are the same color as mine. Your skin is pale like mine too.

Thanks for being my hot lunch date.  I’m so glad I have you with me ALL THE TIME.

You should be in Preschool now.  But you decided learning to use the toilet wasn’t a priority, so we missed the registration.  I was sad at first, but now I’m not. I really like having you around.

You like to climb up on a stool and watch me cook.  You like to fix things with your tools in the bathroom while I do my make up.  You call out my name whenever we’re in separate parts of the house – just checking to see if I’m still around.

When we say family prayers, you insist on sitting in my lap. When we eat dinner, you insist on sitting next to me. When you wake up in the morning and I come in to give you a snuggle, you always tell me, “Mommy, I missed you so much!”

When I leave the house to go have some alone time, you always cry, wailing with devastation, “Mommy, don’t go! Come back! I miss you!”

I’m sure some expert somewhere might say that all of this attachment and dependence isn’t healthy. But I don’t care.  I just want to say thank you.  Because as your brothers and sister get older and need less of my constant care and attention, you my Little Buddy have made me feel valid, needed, wanted and loved.

I’m so glad we’re glued at the hip!

Awww. So sweet. I have my own little shadow and I'm so glad she's not in preschool yet either. My days would be lonely without her. Your constant companion sure is adorable.

He's charming, independent, funny, rascally, smart and full of energy and all to soon will be gone on to bigger and better things. I'm happy you are savoring this special time together.

Thanks for posting this, Sam. I have worried so much about having another baby because of the age gap that keeps getting bigger and bigger. But perhaps a little sidekick while the biggies are off at school is just what I need. :) Love you!
