An Un-Birthday Party …

Hannie B. and I hatched a little plan at the beginning of the summer involving her {not really} upcoming birthday.  She’s a November baby, which means cold weather and busy schedules surrounding the holidays. It’s been a bit of a downer for her in the party department because there’s only so much you can do in 40 degree weather during the school year.

Our plan went something like this:  have an “Un-Birthday” party in the Summer and include two of the best Summer things – a swimming pool and staying up late watching a movie with friends! We called it “Swim & A Show” and it was a HUGE hit!

Our first item of business was to procure a pool.  My friend Susan gladly volunteered and then sweetened the deal by telling us her dad would set up a giant sized movie screen outside so the girls could watch the movie WHILE IN THE FREAKIN’ POOL! Yeah, I know, unbelievably cool.

We gathered enough tubes for all the girls to float in and for my tiny girl to get lost in.

We had a concession stand with all sorts of sweet, sour and chocolatey yumminess chosen by Hannie B. as well as popcorn and soda to munch and sip on.

The girls played in the pool for about an hour until it got dark.  Then they did this:

While we did this:

It was a perfect, LOW STRESS party for me to put on.  Hannah and her friends loved every splashy, dark, sugar filled moment of it.  And now, come November, I have one less thing on my plate to worry about!

How about you? Would you throw your kid a birthday party if it wasn’t their birthday?

If you know what movie we watched, leave a comment.  {Hint: It was rated PG.}

Looks to me like it was a splash snack filled fun B-day party for Hannie B. Great idea to have her party in the summer, I know she loved it. So kind of Susan and her dad to make this dream party come true. They are such generous people.

That is a great idea I will have to remember that one for next year. My kids have a Dec birthday and 2 January birthdays and I always feel bad having a birthday party 2 weeks before Christmas, and a week after. :/

Was to movie Mirror Mirror??

Fantanbulous idea!! I'm going to pass this on to family - I have several 'winter' grands.

My mom did this for me when I was little! My Aug birthday made it so that none of my school friends ever came to my parties. She allowed me to have an unbirthday in October because I LONGED for a costume party! I remember it to this day!
I will have to remember this for my December baby!
Is the movie "Journey to the Center of the Earth" ? I'm dying to know!

Looks like a 'tween dream to me!

What a great party idea!

I have no idea what the movie was. Doesn't look like The Princess Bride or Tangled.

This is such a great idea...my little guy's birthday is in November so I may have to use this in the future! :)

Not sure of the title of the movie, but that scene is beautiful!

That's such a cool birthday party!!!

I've never done that being myself a November girl too. I agree that sometimes it was difficult to celebrate my birthday because it was raining and my house wasn't that big... But I remember many years doing plenty of things outside because it wasn't that cold... I guess since it's around St. Martin's little Summer.
But sure no one of my birthday parties involved a swimming pool.

That was such a great party, and your friend so generous!!! :D
