Wanna See Something Gross?

This is what my hands look like right now.  Covered with itchy, burning hives.  RedDog calls them my witch hands because they are so lumpy and warty looking.  I call them the very bane of my existence.

So much of what we do as mothers, wives and ‘runners of homes’ involves our hands:  from washing dishes and soothing an injured child to folding warm laundry and making meals. It seems like a mom’s hands are ever moving and every last bit of it currently causes me pain and frustration.

Right now this my reality and it is making me miserable.

I would rather sit all day with my hands plunged into a bucket of ice water, than scrub a dish or toilet, because ice water is the only thing that seems to give any relief.  I’ve been in a Benadryl coma for days with no benefit. Medicines, creams, sprays, nothing working.

And mostly I’m just annoyed with myself. I feel whiny. And tired. And itchy. And complainy. And of no use. In fact, just typing is making me mad. So I’m going to stop.

But I feel better having vented. So thanks.

Maybe it's time to visit Dr. Witchen.

Are you allergic to something? Do they know what caused the hives? What if you wrapped your hands in ice packs for a while....

Again?! What, oh what could be causing this?

Any chance your handcream has kiwi extract in it (one of my weird allergies)? or kitty dander? are your dishwashing gloves latex?

You need an allergy sleuth to solve this mystery once and for all!

Stacey,
Thanks for your concern. They don't know what's caused this. And apparently hives can come and go for quite some time. This is the second time I've had them in the past month. Every night I sit with bags of ice on my hands, the rest of me wrapped up in a blanket shivering! :)

Ug, misery! You poor Carlsons sure got the short end of the stick in the allergy department!

Oh how terrible! When j was on his mission, he broke out in hives every time he was in a particular area. They never figured out what was causing it , but it was miserable. I wish it were easier to take the day off as a mother, but things always fall apart so quickly, don't they?

Ooooh, I'm so sorry Samantha! And I totally understand your frustration about those hives...

I agree with some of the comments above {though I don't know what have you already done} but go to the doctor and have some allergy test done. Hopefully they will get to know what is causing it and then you just have to avoid it and never have those hives again!

I hope your pain goes away soon!

All my love.

You poor thing! I know you have hives, but eczema too right? For years I have tried to get help for Maiya's eczema, expensive creams and medicines from the dermatologist and nothing has made a difference until now. My sister told me she uses Curel Itch Defense. In a couple of months, Maiya's eczema symptoms are all gone. Her hands look and feel tons better. You have to use it consistently for a few months, but it's worth it! Try it, you don't have anything to lose!

Just I found your post while looking on the web about hives on hands. Your post was six years ago. I hope you found a cure.

Hey, I've had the same problem with my hands. I've been searching for someone with the same issue. I think your the first I've come across. Mine looks exactly the same, shows up only on the back of my hands and fingers, itchy, like crazy itchy, benadryl does nothing and ice is the only relief. It start as a subtle itch, then a couple red dots appear, then the itch gets worse, and when I start to scratch it gets worse and starts to bleed so easily like it's made my skin become thin. I found something that solves it! I take a curcumin supplement 1g in the morning and 1g at night, and that keeps it at bay. But I still get a breakout every 3 or 4 weeks, when it starts I'll take 4g of the same supplement every hour until it subsides on top of the 2g I take normally everyday. https://express.google.com/u/0/product/2450299232365877754_1097096737219831018_15646?utm_source=google_shopping&utm_medium=tu_cu&utm_content=eid-lsjeuxoeqt%2Ceid-4160052&gtim=CJXsj-f_tJXm0QEQ6-Wh-IfpyKbXARjwuKYOIgNVU0Q&utm_campaign=15646 that's the link to the one I take, I buy it at my local wholefoods. I'm not sure if you read this still or if you've solved the problem yourself, but I'd love to hear back from you to see if we share the same skin issue.
