Twelve Years Ago . . .

scan0001

Big C was my only baby.  He loved anything and everything that had to do with sports and balls.  One night as my friend Sharlene was packing to leave after staying with us, Big C {he was Little C then} decided he’d like to go with her and take his basketball along too. So he hopped into her suitcase.  I was quick enough with my camera {back in the film days} to catch him in the act.

I got a huge lump in my throat on Saturday when we put almost 14 year old Big C on a plane by himself to go to a basketball camp out at BYU. He wasn’t nervous at all and didn’t want to be fussed over.  He is way cooler than I was at that age.

As we waited to hear that he’d made it okay, all I could think about was the picture I took of him twelve years earlier – just a baby in a suitcase with a basketball.

How did he get so big so fast?

I love you Big C! And I miss you like crazy.

I hope he's having a blast. I know seeimg that pic of him was a blast from the past. Just think, in two and half years he'll be driving and it won't just be down a basketball court.

I'm with you on this one. My son is nearly 14 years old too. He was away at scout camp all last week and I missed him terribly. How I wish they didn't grow up so incredibly fast! My dad has always told me to cherish the moments we are in (messy toys all over the place and all) because they won't last long and I'll want them all back. I'm seeing how very right he is. Good luck this week. I've been to those BYU basketball camps and he'll be just fine. :)

Two great pictures of an adorable baby/amazing young man. I bet he's having the time of his life.

Is it weird that I still think of Chris being that age? Even though I've seen him plenty of times since then, he'll always been little Chris to me. :-)
I'm sure he's having a fantastic time. We are sending the kids off for about 3 weeks while we finish packing, painting and cleaning the house. I'm only having a tiny bit of anxiety over it.

I recall the first time I met "Little C. It was at your parents' townhome in Springfield. He opened the door to greet me with a big grin and those blue eyes and I melted away.

I admire you because I couldn't do it! We joke about how our girls can get married and have children but they still need to live in our house. Away camps are totally out of the question!

It goes by way too fast, doesn't it???

So sweet the picture of Little C in that suitcase! Almost the basketball is bigger that him.

Sure he is having the time of his life at the basketball camp.

I still can't believe how big, little "C" is. Crazy! I'm sending a hug his way, even though he's probably too cool for a hug from me now:(
