High Maintenance & High Expectations . . .

Thank you for the many wonderful name suggestions for our bunny. After thoughtful consideration and much debate {I voted for Nutmeg} our little hopping friend will bear the moniker of Max as decided by Hannie B, loyal and trusted bunny owner.

We did find out who left the turtle on our front porch.  It was the Bishop of our church congregation.  When he was visiting with us on Sunday RedDog mentioned to him that we were in the market for a turtle. When the Bishop went to pull out of his driveway yesterday, there sat the turtle right in the path as if to say, “Take me to the Lee’s house. I’ll make a little boy very happy.”

And so SHE has.  Her name is Ruby and she’s a charmer. My public apologies for referring to her yesterday as a little fella.  I hadn’t done my research yet.

Now we are the owners of two pets: Max and Ruby. Today temps will be in the 100s.  Max is currently sitting on an ice pack to help keep him cool.  Ruby will get several dips in her makeshift pool to help her regulate her body temperature. Somehow I have become the Manager Of Pet Comfort and Temperature Control. Plus I am on my way to the grocery store to buy food for my family AND for the pets as all bunny pellets have been rejected.  Hmmm . . .

I won’t even start on how I almost lost the bunny on Monday by trying to take it out of it’s current home so Ollie could pet it.  I spent the next fifteen minutes running around the yard chasing a bunny and praying to Heavenly Father out loud to not let it escape under the fence.  Ollie ran around after me repeating everything I said. “Shoot.  Oh no.  Bunneeee!”

I’m exhausted and it’s only been four days. Help.

I like the names you have chosen, specially Ruby.

I can imagine your nervousness while trying not to lose Max. But the scenery you describe, with Owlie running behind you is so so sweet!

Can you imagine someone trying to chase the neighbor's rabbit on the neighbor's yard while trying that her own dog don't eat the rabbit and also not being seen?

Your right, that was me. And it was an awful situation. My dog get into the neighbor's back yard. I was on the street calling my dog to come back. And he wasn't. At the end, I went in... and what I found was a scared wet (with my dog's saliva) rabbit running outside his cage and my dog chasing him. Somehow, I get to solve the problem without being seen (or this is what I think).

Hi Samantha,

I remember coming across this website long ago. It has many tips and lots of information about owning a rabbit. :-)

still laughing!!

I don't know squat about turtles or rabbits, but I do know that the first months were the WORST for me with the dog. After that I kinda became numb.

If they survive the summer theres a good chance that they'll survive the fall. Maybe the kiddos will be tired of being pet owners by then and the pets can move to another home or some where else.(I didn't write pot) On the other hand, maybe you will find that you've grown to love these pets and that they have become part of your family and routine.

Little Miss C is flattered you voted for her suggestion {Nutmeg} but ultimately agrees with the children's choice of Max & Ruby. Clever!

Good luck, especially with the heat. I've been a reluctant pet {cat} owner in the past, and when one day she went missing, I couldn't help heave a sigh of relief. :)

I'm sure it will get easier. You just need to figure it out before you head out of town for some family vacation.

Great literary names. Rosemary Wells is smiling.

I love the names! On your previous post I was going to say you should name your turtle Ruby. I'm glad I read this post before commenting. You are quite a wonderful Mama for giving homes to these pets when you are not much of a pet enthusiast.

Max & Ruby...genius.

You've definitely scored one for the Mom of the Year award!

Love the names! You are such a great Mom! I know nothing about bunnies or turtles but if you ever need someone to pet sit I know a teenager who adores animals ;)

I am gut laughing as I picture you running around your backyard calling after the bunny! If only that had been caught on film! It gives me flashbacks to chasing 7 chickens around my backyard to return them to their coop. Add these pet experiences to the "I am an amazing mom list".....because you are.
