The Caramel Perfected . . .

IMG_9190

When my friend Jennie was here for Christmas I gave her a little how-to in sea salt caramel making, which in hindsight is actually hilarious, considering that she is a culinary goddess and puts my kitchen skills to shame. Still, I let myself bask in the tiny glow of knowing how to craft just one thing that teased her taste buds in the least bit.

She went home and practiced the art of caramel making until she had it down, and more than likely could do it with her eyes closed while wearing a dainty apron and talking on her iPhone. Because my girl makes domesticity look like a dang walk in the park. And I lurve her for it.

On Saturday a small package arrived from Jennie.  Upon opening it, I found a pristine white box smartly labeled “sticky puffs”.  Intriguing and confusing.  There was a small note detailing a batch of sea salt caramels gone awry and then married with a batch of homemade marshmallows. Man oh mighty, did I forget to tell you she makes homemade marshmallows. Seriously, it’s a problem.

Is it possible that my girl Jennie, by way of a caramel mishap, could have stumbled upon something even more delicious and amazing than the caramels alone? Yes, indeedy. She is a genius of the highest order.

Behold, the Sticky Puff:

The entire box was gone in one day and let me be clear that I only shared one with my momma The Queen.  I cannot begin to describe the deliciousness, but I do believe it may have brought a tear to my eye.  So now I’ve got a deal to make:  Jennie – how about I stick with making the caramels and you keep making the Sticky Puffs?

Thankyou. Thankyouverymuch.
