Can you see it? Look for the clues! It's in his pink cheeks and ears. It's in the grin he's wearing. And if you look very closely at this picture of RedDog, you'll see it - the biggest clue of all. There in his tousled rusty hair are three flakes of pure, unadulterated white snow! I cannot explain the joy this little boy felt when he woke up this morning and exclaimed loud enough for the neighbors to hear, "Momma, it finally SNOWED!"
His joy was doubled for me because I was aware that he had flushed ice cubes down the toilet last night and then jumped on his bed while doing the "snow dance" (shake your body around while happily singing "Let It Snow"). So sweet RedDog actually believed this morning that he was solely responsible for our snow.
Now, to all you readers in Utah, Minnesota, Montana, Michigan, Ohio, Vermont - basically all the places that are knee deep in snow and have been for weeks if not months - a tribute for you (wink, wink): not only did we get snow, but we got a total of three inches, which in wimpy old Virginia is enough to cancel school for the day.
Bless you, sleeping in. Bless you, chores getting done early. Bless you, children laughing and staying outside until your fingers and toes are numb. And bless you snow, for finally, finally making my kids dreams come true.

Just a few inches of snow in Seattle and the whole city shuts down. My family in UT thinks it's ridiculous and makes fun of us. I don't mind having to stay home for a few days though! :)
We got an inch of snow three years ago right on Easter. It seemed like the whole city of Killeen was having a panic attack all at the same time. It was pretty hilarious for someone like me who grew up with Utah winters.
Love that picture of Red Dog and I love that his snow ritual includes flushing ice down the toilet. Kids are the best.
I am sooo disappointed-You left me out-MICHIGAN!!! We have had that dang stuff around since October! Last night was nothin'!!!
I'm so glad that your kids enjoyed the snow. What great pictures. You can come out to Michigan anytime. We have plenty of it.
And bless the VA snow that does not have to be shoveled....as Matt, myself and my 4 children (even the baby with a garden hand spade in hand) spent 2 hours chipping up to 7 inches in some places of ice from our driveway and walks until they were perfectly clear....only to wake up to 4 more inches of the beautiful white stuff. But still, perhaps because I wished for snow as a Texan child I still LOVE it. And as I walk outside I marvel at the beauty of our little Alpine, Utah. Enjoy!
This is just the right amount of snow for me, easy to shovel and hopefully gone by tomorrow. I'm happy for the kiddos though it's about time they get a little sledding fix and day off from school.
Hoping this is just the snow start for you and the kiddos!
Red Dog looks like he's practically waggin' his tail with joy!
Send some of that warmer VA air this way!
I didn't know that there wasn't any snow in VA. I'm actually surprised! I thought there was more. I'm glad you guys had fun!
Ya left me out too! Colorado doesn't believe in snow days! AARG! It's been stinkin' COLD here! HA! HA! HA! Enjoy your free day. Love, L
Fun snow day for your kids. And what a cute picture of your sweet little boy. I wish I could be as excited about the snow. This might help me view it in a whole different way.
Have a good day.
dude whatevs. This last week it hailed during the night and the next day the entire football field was white, covered in ice--if THAT wasn't the talk of the kids that day, I don't know what was. And the "snow" patches in the foliage areas outside my classroom door didn't melt completely until 5pm.
take THAT, UT, MT, MN, MI, OH, and now VA! Bring it!!
oh and ps, I'm really happy for you and the kids. Gorgeous picture. :)
