How To Fix A Big (Little) Problem . . .

Once upon a time there was a charming house with a white front porch and beautiful tall trees in the back yard on a quiet street in a neighborhood filled with playing children. A sweet and handsome man decided that this was THE house to buy for his true love. The house had many wonderful qualities. Its laundry room was not one of them.

In fact, the laundry room wasn't a room at all, but a hallway leading out of the house into the dirty garage. When the frosty cold of late fall and winter arrived, the three children of this man and his true love would pile their thick winter parkas on top of their full backpacks onto three little hooks in the laundry hallway, making it virtually impossible to pass through to the garage or to do any laundry for that matter!

The man didn't mind, but his true love was unhappy and his children had to wear dirty clothes since their mother didn't like to do the laundry in the hallway.

Then one day the man decided he would make his true love happy. He got to work using his trusty carpenter skills - knowing how his true love adored him even more when he built things - and set to work creating the most fantastic mudroom lockers in the dirty garage. The two worked together as a team - he the builder and buyer, she the designer and painter. When it was all finished and the children's many items of random garage messiness were tidily organized, the man and his true love smiled and felt very proud of their accomplishment. And his true love got right to work on doing the laundry in her very spacious hallway.

(This picture was taken when Big C and Hannie B were already at school - coats and backpacks with them!)
After many great guesses, congratulations go to Lynne! You guessed the right room and what the project was. Email me at emailsamanthaleeataol.com with your address . . . I've got a Thanksgiving goodie for you!

Those are some serious carpentry skills your hubby has. Nice! Good color choice as well.

My laundry room has the exact same situation in my house. It's really just a hallway to the garage. But it doesn't bother me and we have a large front closet to store all our coats. Not that winter-wear is all that important here in Texas.

We have the SAME LAUNDRY ROOM!!! However, yours is much lovelier than mine. I may need to work on that -- and the lockers. Todd will be so thrilled!!

Hi this is Lynne's sister. I am not surprised at all that she guessed it. She totally has a mudroom/organized garage fetish. Her husband knows exactly how to make her happy--shoe rack and coat rack in the garage by the door. When I visited her this summer she took me on the Utah County Parade of Home tours just to see mudrooms. By the way, the red is delicious.

Love the reclaimed space. Love the red. Love the carpentry skills. Laundry room is awfully cute and tidy too!

I also see a new kid chore in the making: straightening of the lockers!

Clever duo you and the hubby. Looks FABULOUS but I'm thinking those kiddie coats are going to be mighty cold to put on when it's freezing cold outside. Maybe you can just whipped them into your trusty hallway laundry room dryer to warm them up a bit for your posse.
