Springy Thingies . . .

This super soft little guy lives at my mom's house. When I saw him there the other day, two thoughts came to my mind - first, "Does this mean Spring is almost here?" Second, "How can I steal this sweet little chicky without her noticing?" I really do love him. He reminds me of all the things I love about Spring, like the yellow daffodils, all things coming anew, the bright sunshine, and my allergies.

This is how I know it isn't quite Spring yet here in Leesburg- early each morning, as they come down for breakfast, the first thing my two elementary schoolers do is grab their coats and go put them on the air vents in our dining room. It only makes sense that the two most powerful vents in the entire house are in the least used room in the house - right? The coats get all toasty and warm while the kids eat their breakfast. Next comes the unusual process of bowing down to the mighty airvents, with both kids on their knees, hands paying homage over the warm air. It looks weird and ritualistic, but it works for them and they love to be warm before they head out the door into the cold. Nope, it's not Spring yet!

But wait! It must be getting close, because the same day I took the above picture (this very morning), it was warm enough for the Red Dog and I to go to the park and have a little picnic with our friends the Mecks while wearing only a light jacket! I love 65 degrees! Everyone is just so much happier when they've been outside for some running around in the fresh air. So, I'm excited to announce that I think Spring may be just around the corner. (Now if that doesn't bring us a huge dumping of snow, I don't know what will!)

I thought the same thing about Denver. We had this gorgeous day in 75 degree weather on Saturday. I thought Spring is upon us and then they next day came and we had several inches of snow! ):

March is so unpredictable for weather. I love the little hairy chic. He is quite adorable. Red Dog too.

I learned long ago during my days in NYC that spring does not come until the end of April. "She" is a big tease. "She" is relentless and will tease us several times and then because she is so mean "Jack Frost" will pull the chair out from under her and it will feel like the depths of winter once again. I enjoy the nice warm days and spent 4 hours at the park with no jackets....however, I have seen it snow in April and refused to be teased into a false sense of hope.
