Since it's that time of year when my children pester me incessantly about what they want to be for Halloween, I thought it was only appropriate to share this picture with you - my five devoted readers. It was taken in 1979. The kimono clad Bride of Dracula is me and the jean-clad bloodsucker is my brother Chris. We are 6 and 7 years old in this picture. Pause for a moment and ask yourself - WHAT WERE OUR PARENTS THINKING? WHAT KIND OF COSTUMES ARE THOSE FOR KIDS THAT AGE? What's with the fangs and bright red lips, the black ghoulish eyes and blood trickling from the corner of Chris' mouth? Seriously - I am creeped out by this picture. Can't you just hear my mom saying, "Okay, honey, now raise your hands like a zombie and give us your best scarey face!" Didn't I want to be a princess or fairy? Don't little boys that age want to be super heroes? We are weird! We are freaks! We are strangely color coordinated. We belong in a Boris Karloff movie. I guess I will stop complaining now when I go through Target and have to stare at all the creepy Halloween costumes for kids - because apparently my parents were doing the same thing almost 30 years ago!

You guys look great!
Clearly you have a very creative and desperate mother who didn't want to spend endless hours making costumes and was also very cheap out of necessity.
Sam,
As you know, I'm the vampire in this wonderful masterpiece. I look like I've been punched in both eyes and that I'm constipated. Thanks mom.

THAT was hilarious. The 70s were a different time... I think that I got in so much trouble one year that my parents didn't even let me go trick or treating...ask yourself, whose parents do THAT?!
