I spent one day this past weekend on a road trip with my dad, my brother Chris and my sis-in-law Audrey. We got up bright and early on Saturday morning to drive five hours north to West Point, New York for the Army vs. Tulane football game.
Despite the fact that it was a blistering 90 degrees outside (in October!) we had a BLAST! Fall definitely seemed to be more in the air up north. The leaves were changing, and a slight breeze took the edge off the heat. Never mind that I was sticky in my jeans and black shirt! It just seemed like fall - especially with the football!
Being on the West Point campus was historically enriching, patriotically exciting and even old town charming. It just felt like stepping into a different era. (Until we were approached by a cadet clothed in fatigues and body armour, offering to let us hold his completely modern assault machine gun.)
I lived at West Point when I was three, but have no memories of it. My dad showed us our old house and where we used to swim. He was a virtual well spring of curious and cool information about the history of this great American treasure and university - having experienced it first hand himself. I enjoyed all the new and reviewed facts. I enjoyed the energy that was present during our visit. I was impressed by the many clean cut, short haired, respectful cadets who greeted us during our stay - and called me maam . . . I AM OLD.
Anyway, Army squeaked out a last minute win against Tulane and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. College football still remains my spectator favorite. Good food, good company, good location, good weather and a break from my every day life . . . a perfect getaway! Enjoy photos from West Point.

Great pictures! That would be so fun to go to West Point with your Dad, since he knows everything about it!
When Joel graduated from Basic Training your Dad was a living font of infortmation about the Army. He knew what every flag and ribbon represented.
I love you. Thank you for being a wonderful mother and my best friend. We are blessed. The weekend with me and the kids was great, but we are glad you are home. We need you.
