Reunion Recap #7: Tea Party

I was asked to do two things for the Hubby's family reunion this year, both of which revolved around tee {or tea}.

As I've mentioned previously, I designed the t-shirts for the reunion. More on that tomorrow.

I was also in charge of hosting a tea party for the little ladies of the family while the daddies were out golfing one morning.

We have six girl cousins of tea partying age. After reading to them from Fancy Nancy's Tea Party etiquette book, we began by creating vintage crowns for each girl. I'd already cut and glittered the crowns in Virginia. The girls then added paper flowers,their names and chose ribbon for tying.

Once they'd finished their crowns, each girl was able to make a wrist corsage to take their fancy attire to the next level. I'd preassembled the corsages using the tissue pom pom tutorial on a small scale and substituting the floral wire with green pipe cleaner. All the girls had to do was fluff the tissue for a beautiful, full bloom.

With crowns and corsages in place, we were ready to spend some time doing the types of things refined ladies do, like painting. I'd found the perfect medium at Michael's Crafts - butterfly pictures that included a strip of water colors at the bottom, just add water on a q-tip for application. The mess was minimal and the girls loved painting together.

Finally it was time to don our fancy gloves and enjoy a frivolous little meal served on Grandma's china and petite glassware. We noshed on tiny blueberry scones, itty bitty cinnamon rolls, mini fruit kabobs, and pretty parfaits, along with our "tea of choice" - limeade!

Aunt Jami gussied up our table with miniature floral arrangements from the yard of the rental house! After eating, each girl opened a small box at her place setting. Inside was a bead necklace, a candy bracelet and a little jeweled picture frame to hold the group photo from the tea party.

We played a quick tea pot game at the end and called it all fancy and wonderful. This morning with the girls was so fun for moms and girls alike. Thanks to Grandma and all the Aunties for helping out!
