Reader Question: Teacher Gifts

IMG_6148 {Please forgive this photo.  It’s rainy and dark here this morning}

I’m so excited I can hardly stand it! I received my first ever question from a reader in my inbox last night and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect.  Her question, “What are you doing for teacher gifts this year?” had already been on my mind and in my little pile of ‘To Blog Abouts’.

This reader happens to  be one of THE MOST TALENTED people I know, so I feel flattered she would ask me for ideas.

As a disclaimer, I should probably let you know that my original idea well is a bit dried up right now.  I think it has something to do with all the renovations and redecorating going on in my house.  It’s sucking the very life out of me. But, I’ve been very impressed with the mass of ideas floating around the internet for teacher gifts and I reworked one slightly to give this year to my elementary aged kids teachers.

They were so grateful and impressed with the handmade flower pins I made for Teacher Appreciation week, so I knew we had to go handmade again. I think the personal touch of a well done handmade gift really stands out  in a sea of store bought/edible/drinkable gifts.

Dandee posted a free download of some adorable thank you notes for teachers that looked like notebook paper.  I took one look at her design and realized I could make it on my own and add the teachers’ names for customization. If you have any kind of desktop publishing or graphic design program, this is a cinch.  It’s simply drawing lines of different colors, widths and styles.

I found the font online for free at fontspace.com. It’s made up of tiny dashed lines – the kind you used to trace when you were learning your letters.

For finishing touches, I rounded the corners with my little corner punch {love, love!} and tied up twenty note cards and envelopes with a few new pencils and some sweet twine.

This may not seem like enough of a gift, but we always contribute to the class gift and I like my kids to be able to take in a little something on the last day.

Here are two other sites with amazing teacher gift ideas:

Giverslog {all time favorite gifting blog. Ever.}

Design Mom {everything Gabrielle posts is worthy.}

I hope this helps you dear reader.  I know you’ll make it great.  How about the rest of you . . . what are your teachers getting this year?

Hi there! I liked this post a lot. I had almost forgotten about teacher gifts, being many years out of school. I used to give them flowers from our backyard a lot. (By me I mean of course my mom!) In 8th grade I made a big card for my favorite teacher - a piece of construction paper folded in half, glitter, bubble letters, the whole 12 year old girl deal. Her eyes teared up when I gave it to her!

I knew you'd have the answer for LK, it's for sure I didn't. As always, great ideas.
