For A Special Girl …

Recently I had the chance to make some cupcake toppers for a very special one year-old’s birthday party.

She’s got this head of irresistible curls, so I chose a vintage image that reminded me of her.  I used a color palette of deep pink and orange to highlight the orange creamsicle cupcakes that would be part of the celebration.

A large L for Lucy and a sweet scalloped edge completely the design. Hannie B. helped me hot glue the pieces to lollipop sticks and off they went to celebrate a darling girl who’s getting so big!

I really enjoy this kind of work. It is more like play for me!  It is so fun to create things that make someone else feel special and loved.

Would you like some custom designed cupcake toppers? Leave a comment telling me about your favorite birthday cake or cupcake and I’ll choose a winner THIS FRIDAY.

Very cute. It pays to have the right craft tools for such a project!

My favorite birthday cake is, uh, ...oh, wait. I would rather have a birthday pie or birthday batch of cookies.

But those little toppers would look great on a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich...we have no birthdays here until May though.

Adorable and I hope you're able to post a pic of the birthday girl soon too! I'm sure she's a beauty!!! How fun! And yes, what tools did you use for that fine scalloped edge? I'll just have to enjoy your gifts from a far and be grateful someone has them and loves them. I'm trying to train myself to like doing this stuff, but I'd rather admire for now ;) You did inspire me to do a Valentine's dinner for my family and it was a big hit that I plan to make a tradition from now on. I love your guts, keep it up!
As for a favorite birthday cake, my mom once made me a cabbage patch birthday cake back when cake decorating was making its rounds through Relief Society Homemaking meetings. It was adorable and to this day I'm so proud of the things she'd pick up and perfect in her own way because in some way it was to connect with us -- cake decorating, calligraphy, heirloom sewing, Russian, wood working, family history. Love Moms! So why not a Mother's Day theme? Not sure how I'd pull that off from here, but there's got to be a way!

Soo cute Sam! I am currently doing party decorations for a girl in my ward. I love working on stuff like this too. I wish I had your "graphic designer gift" or at least the tools,

My favorite birthday cake was for my 3rd or 4th birthday. My older brother was about 10 and he told me he would make my cake and make it look like anything I wanted. I told him I wanted a rainbow. He baked it and frosted it with 3 fat rainbow stripes and added candles. Total tiny kid heaven!

SOOO cute! My little girl turns 7 in March (sniffle, sniffle)and I am starting to plan her big day. She is wanting a strawberry theme! I am thinking polka dots, stripes in pinks, red, greens... how perfect for her cupcakes! My family adores chocolate, so I am sure that is what I will make. With pink frosting?

Love your blog!
Thanks!
Aubrey

My favorite birthday cake was a Barbie stuck in the top of a dome shaped cake, frosted like a princess dress all the way up to her boobies. It was awesome!

Absolutely darling! My favorite birthday cake to look at was also a barbie! But because I did not like frosting when I was a little girl cheesecake was always my requested treat! :) I do like frosting now....especially on cupcakes topped with really cute toppers! :)

So hard to pick a favorite! My birthday is the 4th of July, so my mom would get Ho-Hos (I think they are still called that - made by Little Debbie I believe). They are like chocolate cake and a fluff type filling rolled up and covered in chocolate. She would take those and stick a candle in the end of each so they looked like fireworks. Or, she'd make a regular cake with white icing, and lay out blueberries and strawberries to look like an American flag. Strawberries are my all time favorite food, which is funny because I think they are my little guy's favorite too. He could care less about sweets like cake and cookies. He will be 2 in May, so I'm thinking about making a modified strawberry short cake dessert (heavy on the strawberries) for his birthday, or a fruit tart.

Oh, I'm supposed to leave more of a comment than that... :)

My favorite birthday cake... Usually end up making my own (probably out of habit, since I think I even had to make my own some years, as a kid...) Baskin-Robbins ice cream cake! With crunchy fudge center. Specifically, for my 35th birthday, I bought my own cake-- and instructed them to write on the top, "Downhill to 40" because I thought it was hilarious. And they messed up and just wrote "Downhill 40"... which makes no sense. Loved that cake :)

adorable every time! My favorite birthday cake is one my hubby made! He is an artist so he cut and pasted (with frosting) round cakes. He baked a few and then just cut and molded the shape he wanted til he came out with a bumble bee. it was for a "fear factor" birthday party he did for me YEARS ago when it was cool. (That makes me REALLY old because the show has been cancelled and come back on again! EEK!) at any rate I loved that he took the time to make it perfect for me!
