for the past few nights, the Random Thought Monster has attacked my brain. Here’s what he {it’s always a he} has left me with:
- This is the first year we’ve put our tree up the day after Thanksgiving and we are loving it. I think it will be our new tradition.
- How can I break the boy baby of his pacifier AND put him in a big boy bed at the same time without either ruining bedtime altogether or simply killing him with the double whammy?
- I believe I could live on soup and soup alone forever. Is there a diet for that? Because I was at the doctor’s yesterday and the scale told me point blank that it was time to get my act together or have no pants that button.
- We are no longer exchanging sibling gifts for Christmas in the Hubby’s family. I am sad. I am also relieved.
- Two kids in braces is going to be fun. Except for the part where it’s torture plus bad breath plus food stuck in teeth. But otherwise, fun.
- The hardest person to shop for at Christmas time is my dad. Last year I pulled off a two thumbs up, although upon opening the gift, he had loads of doubt. This year, I’m the one with doubt.
- The easiest person to shop for at Christmas time is RedDog. Because he makes lists that say things like “a pound of Toblerone” and “a bathrobe”. Don’t you think he’ll look dashing sitting around in his bathrobe eating Toblerone?
- I love baking during the holidays. I also love eating what I bake during the holidays. Help.
- We took family pictures on Thanksgiving day with my Photobro. He got the perfect shot in under two minutes. It was a holiday miracle.
- We still have pumpkins from Halloween on our porch that we never carved. They are sitting next to twinkle lights. We have a severe case of décor overlap going on.
- I am growing my hair out which means I look like a wet dog 99% of the time. The other 1% of the time I look like a shaggy dog.
- The solution to the SourMilkStinkyVan Debacle of 2011? Hubby took a utility knife and cut the dreadful carpet and pad out of the van. We’ve ordered a hard rubber tray for the van. In essence, the $3.00 gallon of milk ended up costing us $100.
- Wanna know a gross word? Moist. Unless it applies to cake, then it’s an awesome word.
And that, dear readers, is what’s going on in my brain right now. Crazy, I know.

Ooh, I love that globe ornament. Where did you find it? (And I sure hope you don't say you bought it at some very obscure boutique 13 years ago.)
Anne, I got it at the Restoration Hardware Outlet three years ago. They had two. I bought them both.
I enjoyed your random thoughts, thank goodness we were'nt the only ones who didn't carve pumpkins for Halloween!
Wishing you a better smelling van in 2012. ;)
Your random thoughts always brighten my day.
How about the soup and Christmas cookie diet for the best of both worlds?
I'd tackle the binkie and the big boy bed one at a time if I were you!
And, if you have three pumpkins you could spray paint them white and stack them to look like a snow man!
Does Owlie like the tree? I'm afraid my little guys is going to a)try to climb it, or b) take every ornament off!
Happy Holidays!
I agree with Margy about the paci/bed problem, as I already suggested to start with the bed and once he's use to that explain to him that now that he's in a big boy bed it's time to de-pacify.
Paint the pumpkins white and glitter them.
I always enjoy your random thoughts.
Oooooh that tree globe ornament is the most beautiful one! I'm in love!!! But I'm also bummed for the answer you gave to Anne's comment... :(
{I've always had a thing for globes, specially vintage ones.}
Parents here usually tell their kids that they have to give away the pacifier to the Three Kings in order to get Christmas presents. I've been told is the easiest way to them to be willing to do that. You can try with Santa.
Ups, that reminds me that I still owe you a recipe. Tomorrow I start a 10 days holiday so... I will use some of this time to translate the recipe and send it right to you. {Sorry for the delay, but I've been so busy lately.}
I've been thinking for weeks that this afternoon I would put up the Christmas tree at our apartment in Barcelona, but I'm going to straight from my practicals at ob to the theatre (The Miserables) so... Christmas decoration will have to wait!!!
So how long will you grow your hair?
I like Apis' suggestion of a soup and cookie diet. I'm inclined to believe it will work because of all the Christmas magic in the air.
Separate that Owlie boy from one thing at a time. Change can be tough when your two.
I tried to grow my hair out as well. I surrendered today. I'm off to get a new do here shortly.
Love the ornament! Good luck with the paci/bed thing (I won't even tell you the horrors I've been experiencing with my nearly 2 year old trying to get him to stay in his toddler bed the past few months!).
We are also not doing sibling gifts this year, but decided to do a Bingo small/cheap gift game. We play Bingo, if you win you get a gift (of course, people will be kind and let others get presents even if they don't win). We are also doing the thing where you can steal someone's opened present or get a new one for the pile. Mean, I know, but so exciting as long as everyone is nice! Every couple contributes to the gift game without spending more than $15-$20 total (it used to be I was spending $40 per couple and with so many siblings we were going broke!). We are going to have people baking, cooking, sewing, crocheting, and buying little things to put in the pile. I love this, and my parents are a part of it (so they too don't have to shell out money they don't have for presents for everyone too, because this year everyone is BROKE!). It's about having fun with family, but not breaking the bank. Children are excluded from this though, this was just for the adults, so we can all come away with a little something and have fun too.
We also did a family picture on Thanksgiving (will you be posting yours? I'm sure it looks way awesome!). We do every year, but we have no photobros or sisters, just amateur siblings/parents taking the parents. This makes for some weird pictures sometimes. This year was no exception (and we only have 2 kids)!
Loving your posts and thoughts, and even though I hardly comment, just wanted to say I look forward to reading your blog!
