How To Host A High School Reunion . . .

If I could pick just ten things that helped us make our reunion a smashing success, here’s what I would say:

1. Work on and plan the reunion with dependable, happy, energetic people. You won’t regret seeing how amazing people you knew as teenagers have become as adults.

2. Make sure you work extra hard to convince the people you want to see the most to come to the reunion. Hound them. Hound them until they fly all the way from Fiji.

3. Plan events where people can relax, have personal, meaningful conversations and enjoy a casual atmosphere. {We had a mixer/reception Friday night, a BBQ/Pool party ALL day Saturday and lunch at a nice German restaurant on Sunday}

4. Stay up VERY late {like 3:30 AM} talking, laughing and roaming the town. You’ll feel young again. Until the morning, when you will realize you are in fact very, very old.

5. Give everyone some swag. {favorite German candies, a customized beer mug, a DVD of the yearbook and a nametag with senior picture on it.}

6. Eat good food. When you went to high school in Germany, only a schnitzel will do. Mama, this brought me to my knees.

7. Bring along some yearbooks. Because you will laugh so hard you almost pee your pants.

8. Take a group photo. Do it because you’ll want to remember everyone that was there. Even if they were shirtless in a pool.

9. Pause to remember classmates who’ve left this life all too soon. Name them by name. Think of them and pray for their families.

10. Pause again and thank God that you were lucky enough to see such wonderful people again. Then start thinking about your 25th reunion.

Looks like so much fun - was this a solo adventure for most or were families included? Love the crafty goodies but I think I love the red accents with the grey top more...must add more color to my wardrobe!

And some of us are wishing we could spell:

Heidelberg.

I'm so happy that your "committee" pulled it off! I haven't made it to any of my reunions yet but can't imagine how cool it'd be to gather a group like your class! And now I'm craving some serious spaetzle!!!

Erin - of the 35 classmates who came, 13 brought spouses and two brought small children. All were welcome!

Way fun! It makes me wish I'd gone to high school {I was home schooled- I'd graduated and was working full time at that age} just so I could have a similar reunion! Well done.

Was there ever any doubt it would be anything except a smashing success? Not with Samantha at the helm! Stupendous work lady! Treat yourself to something yummy for all your hard work!
