Living With History . . .

We’ve got some special people with us right now.  Our grandies from Utah are here and we are loving every single minute of it. We’re busy enjoying them and have a very special weekend coming up. More on that later.

Yesterday the boys and I took them to Ball’s Bluff Battlefield for a nature walk/history lesson. Whenever I take a visitor there, I’m always reminded how lucky we are to be surrounded by so much of our nation’s historical past.

This visit, occurring the day after Independence Day, was particularly meaningful.  It was also awesome to have Big C. recount many of the historical facts related to the site to his grandparents.

RedDog was happy to wield a walking stick and sit on big cannons.

My favorite shot from the day is this one in front of the nation’s third smallest Civil War cemetary. It is hallowed ground. And my first born had to bend almost in half so his Grandma could put her arm around his shoulder.  Good times. We love you Grandma Mona and Papa Bob.
