It's time to walk! We're leaving today at 3:30 to complete our check-in in Washington DC and will start tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM with opening ceremonies! I'm so excited to put all the training to work, walk with my friends and be a part of an amazing experience, all while honoring people I love!
I've spent the past few days gathering and packing. That may sound downright silly, but I am realizing more than ever that this is a HUGE deal, especially when it comes to being prepared. Thought you might want to see what's going into my duffle bag - enjoy the photos of all my pink paraphernalia!
Possibly the single most important thing I have bought for this walk is these bad boys -- my "really expensive", but "really, really kind to my feet" Brooks running shoes. I was professionally fitted for these (and not by some teenager at a sporting goods store). Every time I put them on, I thank my sweet Hubby for not making me wear some cheap shoes from the Outlets near our house. I also have four pairs of these fabulous non-cotton Balga running socks. They are like little clouds, cushioning my feet with each step. And they're called "X-Athlete" which makes me feel super cool, because as you know, I am totally NOT any kind of an X-Athlete! I can honestly say, that for the first time in my life, I am madly in love with a pair of socks. It's weird, I know, but it is true what they say about having the right kind of equipment - it makes such a difference! Love, love, love my shoes and socks!
Here is a shot of two things that make me really happy -- my shower shoes and my tiara, both gifts from the ladies of the "Boob Crew". We had a little get together Monday night and laughed our heads off while exchanging pink gifts. We all now own fuschia nail polish, some serious pink Bling earrings and bracelets, shower shoes, zebra striped bandanas, a pink hand held fan (totally over the top!) and a gorgeous pink ribbon pin from Linnea. We'll be all decked out and plan to have an amazing two days.
Plan to stop by Compound Eye next week for a photo recap as well as some video footage. Reese Witherspoon is going to be at our walk, and we are bound and determined to hunt her down and get a picture with her! Should be fun . . . so let's get walking!

I love the tiara. :)
Tell me you're packing some motrin or tylenol too!!!
Have a great time, my friend!
OH man, that sleeping bag? Please tell me they are going to have cots or something for you too. I'm the biggest whimp in the world when it comes to sleeping in less than par circumstances and having to sleep in that between your walk days makes me cringe.
Good luck Sammy. I'm pulling for all of you. I'll be feeling for you at night especially!! ♥
camping on a mat in a tent in a sleeping bag, with tylenol PM. will not know where I am, who I am or what I am doing, will just drift off to very happy place and sleep the pain away. then will take two more tylenon (regular this time) in the AM and do it all again!
Good luck! I don't know if the Tylenol PM is a good idea as you may be seriously dragging in the morning, but if it doesn't affect you like it does me then you go girl! Can't wait to hear the update.
Good luck. Good call on the pain meds.
What are the most wonderful socks in the world made of anyway??
Glad you have those good shoes, socks but most importantly the Tiara. You 5 are all princesses for sure, definitely Queens in the making. Walk strong, help others to Live LONG!
