Things seem more official when posted on the blog for the world to see . . . so, here goes! I have committed to the Avon Walk For Breast Cancer on May 3rd and 4th in Washington D.C. I, along with three friends, will be walking in honor of our friend Linnea DelHoyo, who's been fighting breast cancer since August. (To read about her, click here.)
The Avon Walk is a HUGE deal! We'll be walking a full marathon the first day and a half marathon the second. (I'm sure many of you are chuckling, because you know I could never RUN a marathon, but darnit if I can't walk one!) It is definitely the biggest physical endeavor I have ever attempted - childbirth aside. Here's how I got to this point:
I was on the fence about doing the walk, until my dad was diagnosed with cancer. When someone you love has cancer, you can feel pretty helpless. You can't do their treatment for them, you can't physically take on their pain, and you can't make the cancer go away. Still, you feel a need to do something - anything - to make it a little easier for them. I realized that I needed to do the walk after finishing Lance Armstrong's book, "It's Not About The Bike", where he talks about beginning his foundation and how that gave him such purpose because he felt like he was actually doing something BIG to fight cancer, not just for himself but for all people who've had, or will have cancer.
Since there isn't a "Walk For Throat Cancer", I turned to breast cancer - the other cancer that is in my life right now with my sweet friend Linnea. I feel good about the decision I've made to support this cause. I feel like I am actually doing something to help. I'm excited to be a part of a cause that has raised $500 million for research and programs to help breast cancer patients.
Many of you will get or have already gotten an email from me about the walk and about the funds I am required to raise to participate in the walk. For those of you I didn't email, I'd love for you to check out my personal page and help out if you can! Click here to visit my personal page.

I'm thankful for your support and for support for all who have this challenge to face.
I'll be making a pledge to your site as soon as I clear the books with the Queen Vee.
I love you.
I'm proud of you Sam - make sure you get really good shoes! If you need shoe or sole recommendations talk to my dad or Hubby, they are the masters of long distance goings on and feet. (Seriously...)
I'll pledge to your site and I'm going to be sending you a pair of insoles and socks.
Linnea looks like Dad's mom when she was younger. Come over and check out some pictures. It's the smile , fortunately Linnea has a much prettier nose. I think Dad sent you some moola for the walk. Thanks Samantha for walking the talk.
I'm so glad that you have found a way to honor your Dad and your friend during their cancer treatments. I'm really looking forward to hearing all about your "endurance training."
