Sunday Quiet Time . . .

So it's supposed to be a restful Suday afternoon at our house, which of course means that mayhem and his twin brother chaos are here for a visit. I just can't figure out why we don't have one of those model LDS homes where the children frolick lovingly from room to room on the Sabbath, quoting scripture and lifting one anothers spirits while hymns twinkle on a harp somewhere in the backround.

The Hubby and I have desperately embraced an hour of isolated quiet time for the children while we sneak in a quick nap on Sundays - him because he get's up at 5 AM for meetings and me because I'm done in by getting myself and the three kids ready and to church by 8:00 plus corraling ten 10 year olds for two hours!

Though the quiet time usually goes well, something about them being alone for an hour brings out the worst in all of us. We always seem to end up having a perfect storm of negative scenarios after quiet time that erupt in one great tumultuous event and end with at least two of the three children crying and back in thier rooms. Awesome, right?

Today's meltdown involved Chris and Hannah, some teasing, a shove, a block and the Hubby demanding both children appear in front of him immediately. Tears, raised voices, blaming, etc. landed both kids up to their rooms once again.

About a half hour later, while the Hubby and I were chatting in the family room, a paper airplane came zooming from the upstairs and landed behind the couch. I knew this was going to be good. We opened the plane to find, scribbled in pink crayon, the following:

Dear Dad,

We're All In This Together!

Aren't We?

Yes No (check one)

I just love a kid who can bust out with the High School Musical reference at the totally appropriate time. Thanks for the gut laugh Hannah -- now if you would just get along with your brother!

You are hilarious...or just a fly on the wall in my house on Sundays. And the same thing keeps treadmilling across my mind. I mean, isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Yet, we too, have the same 'quiet time' schedule...with the same 'quiet time' results. Let me know if you come up with a solution. As an aside, we have some special Sunday movies that the kids really look forward to watching...
