The first day of Pre K is in the books. It wasn’t great. Here are my observations:
- My 4 year old has the face of a nefarious villain in his back to school picture.
- Taking pictures of babies is easy. Taking pictures of 4 year olds is torture.
- I will not buy him a special shirt to wear on the first day ever again. He spent the entire two hours stretching it over his shoulders and almost took the whole thing off during circle time.
- It is no fun being the parent of the kid who won’t keep his hands to himself.
- Having the 8:30 a.m. preschool time is hard. Need to wake him up earlier and let him run some laps around the house to get his wiggles out.
- The only requirement in Virginia for admittance into Kindergarten is that you be 5 years old by September 30th. We’ve got that going for us.
- The boy makes up songs ALL DAY LONG when we’re at home. Wouldn’t utter a syllable of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes at school though. Not a syllable.
- I sure love him. But he can be exasperating sometimes. Today was one of those times.
- His “SMILE” face is awkward. See below:
On Wednesday he goes by himself to school and it includes a half hour swim lesson. I’m already praying for a better day.

That sounds like a frustrating day.
Everyone adjusts to new routine at a different pace.
I'm guessing, that in no time, Ollie will be diggin' school.
Samantha- I have so been in your shoes. Give him time. I pray for patience and a warm loving environment for him to grow in. We still deal with these struggles in our 6 year old. I have found that we are our harshest critics. We think everyone notices our kid being shy, loud etc. I find that most parents are too busy worrying about their own kids to even notice my little ones. Much love to you!

He looks like his Papa Ken in the first photo. Papa made the same face when he was little.
I hope he makes friends and will soon learn to participate and obey the rules. It's hard being four when you're a Mr Independent going to do it my way kind of guy.
I just thought of something. Tell him he can go to school, sing and have fun or he can stay home and work. Keep him home from school one day and make him work the whole time, of course at chores he won't like.
Thought of something else. I remember when you and Chris were going to Pre School at West Point at the local Catholic girls college and when I went for the parent conference Chris didn't get a very good report well, he turned out okay.
His eyebrows in that first shot are awesome! What a great face:)
I am sorry it was frustrating for you both. First days can be hard... but everyone survives to do it again.
It is late and I needed a giggle, Ollie is awesome!! His first picture makes made me laugh out loud, man I miss him and Lucy being crazy together. Love that boy!
Love both of his pictures in this post! hahahhahaha so funny!
I hope he is now doing better and adjusting little by little to his new routine. I'm pretty sure he will be having so much fun in no time at Pre-K.
