Questionable Fashion …

So I have this coat.

It kind of resembles the carpet bag of a favorite nanny whose name rhymes with Harry Boppins.

I'm pretty sure it's handmade - of some kind of polyester and short pile carpet.

I got it at a thrift store in Denver for a whopping eight dollars because the fabric reminded me of something one would see on a couch or comforter from Anthropologie {although then it wouldn't be polyester - it would be silk, or silk lined with 24 Karat Gold thread and cost a mere $200.}

Every time I wear this coat, complete strangers stop me to comment on how much they love it and ask me where I got it. Moms at the baseball game.  A lady in the grocery store.  Women at a restaurant.

Here I am in "The Coat" along side the beautiful Jennie Doezie.  This picture was taken just one minute after two women stopped me to tell me how much they loved my coat.

Here's the thing.  I can't decide if I like the coat or if it is the MOST HIDEOUS thing I've ever seen and worn.  Do people like it because it is an absolute monstrosity? Do they like it because it is really, really different?  I'm really having a hard time here.  Also, is it weird that I don't want to tell people I got it at a thrift store because they might think I'm creepy?

Please, weigh in.

PS. Blogged this from the Hubby's work computer.  If it looks weird, sorry.

I think it's a statement piece and a good one at that. Since it's handmade, you should be touting it as a "Designer Original."

If it were mine, I would probably only wear it on days I was feeling confident and sassy.

I like it! It's so original and still beautiful and I also like the bright colors!

Wear it with pride!!! And I agree with Apis, say it's "designer original" ;)

I love it but not everyone could pull off a coat that awesome. It's definitely a coat that needs to be worn with confidence and you can DEFINITELY pull it off. Whatever you do, don't get rid of it.

Like it as a coat, would hate it as my carpet. Looks GOOD on ya.

Ah, the very definition of cutting edge fashion is a piece that catches one's attention and makes one wonder if they love it or hate it.... Or both. ;) I believe bold choices are good for the soul and cause one to be more adventurous in other areas as well-- so go forth and wear it with pride!

Easy. Love it.

If anyone can pull it off it's you! You have great fashion sense. Love the boots too!
Google Reader won't let me make comments to your blog, it's so frustrating!

It's FABULOUS!!! I'm a little jealous, lol. I've a trench with a 70s floral in oranges, yellows, and browns, that I adore. My mom thought it was ugly until I put it on, and her perception changed. It's my go to jacket in the fall because the colors say fall more than spring to me. I love to say that it's vintage when someone asks me where I got it.

OOooh! I LOVE it! some ladies are into shoes, I am into jackets. So far all of mine are solid colors but I would love to add something fun like that to my wardrobe. It is definitely different but I think that is what makes it so fabulous!

I agree with Apis, only on days when you're confident and sassy. Which means you can wear it almost always... Very cute and certainty turn heads!
