Make It Work!

I noticed yesterday that I don't have many pictures or stories about Christopher on the blog. That's because he is at that great age of ten, where all you want to do is play with your friends and be outside. Because of that, basketball and scouts, he doesn't tend to be home a lot. I miss him when he's gone -- he is such a fun kid to be around!

Lucky for me, today is a teacher workday so all of the kids are home from school. With Chris as President of Fun and ring leader, the three kids bundled up and headed out in the 28 degree weather to eek every last ounce of fun out of the sad little strip of snow that has yet to melt in the back yard - the strip that sits in the shadow of our fence and never sees the sun. (This is still from our one big snow a week and a half ago!)

I have never seen kids so determined to sled! There is at least a five to one ratio of grass to snow out there. The dinky patch of snow is a rock hard sheet of ice. The grass is frozen and brown. They have no idea the kind of bodily harm they are about to subject themselves to. I'm watching through the kitchen window, laughing my head off as kid after kid goes halfway down the hill, hits grass and is thrown right off the saucer! They then march back up the hill and do it all again. Awesome!

Our neighbor Alex (whom we call "The Brother From Another Mother" due to his close resemblence to Chris) joined in on the fun. I opened up the window to listen to the happy laughter of childhood and occasionally to yell out directions to ensure personal safety. All in all, I think these kids had a blast and really followed Tim Gunn's (Project Runway, people, start watching) advice:

Project Runway is my favorite guilty pleasure! The pictures of your kids are beautiful as always.

Love the new banner!

Kids are awesome. When they get an idea in their mind, they'll give everything they've got to make it happen. They could teach us adults a thing or two!

SUNSHINE! I want some sun!! Someone would report me to the police if I sent my kids outside here, but they may report me to the police if I can't soon.... hee hee hee. I miss me some Chris, he's such a cute little dude. I'm sure he doesn't appreciate that I remember him best a like 3 years old, so I just want to snuggle him up like a 3 year old still. Oh well.

Ah yes, I have many a mark on my body from subjecting myself to the enticing childhood lure of placing myself on a device and then proceeding downhill. Let's just hope your children never learn my personal favorite of sitting on a skateboard and pretending to race the luge. How did mom ever let me get away with that?
